‘Birthdays only come around once a year, and at my age, I’m lucky if they do.’

The idea of a relaxing birthday was a good one. At least it would give me an excuse to start up my blogs, something I had not done much since my sister’s sudden death in 2019.

Annie, my wife, drove us up to Ayutthaya, a place that I had toured around back in 2008 and cycled from Bangkok to back on the same day a few times since 2009.

We stayed at the Bann House Ayutthaya Resort, which is highly recommended. Ayutthaya is an old capital that was attacked and destroyed by the Burmese. Today, it is a major tourist attraction.

Intent on a cycling weekend, we took our bikes and spent most of Saturday morning cycling around, trying to avoid the main roads and heavy traffic.

Our tour took us along some exciting roads to some interesting places. Now 55, cycling has always been an important part of my life. Discovering new places has always been magical for me.

There are too many beautiful temples to visit in one weekend. The weather was kind to us, too. Our resort and the attractions made a perfect weekend breakaway for both of us. We also saw elephant trekking and the crocked Jedi of Wat Yaichaimongkhol.
